REVIEW – ROB WHEELER Ginger and Nuts

Bringing a touch of British soul to the American country scene, UK artist Rob Wheeler has captured the ears—and heart—of Chicago-based music expert Diana Cavazos Woloszyk, who has named his latest single, “Why Whisky Why”, her “Single of the Week.”

Woloszyk, a familiar voice to listeners of Ginger and Nuts, introduced the track with contagious enthusiasm:

“Let me give you a little country UK style this week.”

The singer-songwriter hails from Cheshire, England—a detail Diana playfully wrestled with on-air (“Is it Cheshire? Chesire? Cheshire. Got it right the first time!”). But there was no mistaking her excitement for Rob’s talent and trajectory.

“Why Whisky Why”, which dropped last Friday across all digital platforms, marks another standout release ahead of Rob’s upcoming album Leave Tomorrow, set to debut on June 6th. The song is a raw, reflective dive into heartbreak and the grip of addiction—a track that Diana praised for its emotional weight and lyrical integrity.

“Why Whisky Why is a heartbreak of all heartbreak songs,” she said. “It leads some to the bottle but gives a depiction of the weariness of addiction and the realization of one leaving those demons behind.”

Diana also recalled Rob’s previous feature on the show back in October, where he introduced the album’s title track, Leave Tomorrow. Since then, she admits, she’s grown into a fan of country music—an unexpected turn for someone who once didn’t count herself among the genre’s die-hards.

“These country artists that are emerging have given me a new respect and perspective on country music,” she said. “Rob’s storytelling and heartfelt lyrics continue to impress me.”

Diana encouraged listeners to download Why Whisky Why on platforms like Apple Music and iTunes, and to check out Rob Wheeler’s UK tour, which kicks off at the Green Note in London on June 11th. She also pointed fans toward his website, robwheelersongs.com, where deluxe album pre-orders and merchandise are available.

“Make sure to follow him on Facebook and Instagram,” she added, noting the live video content Rob regularly shares.

In a moment of serendipity, Ginger and Nuts shared how they’d been discussing Rob’s music just days before.

“I can’t believe Diana picked this song,” one said. “We were only listening to it the other day and said, I wonder if this is going to be Diana’s pick of the week… and as if by magic—it is!”

And with that, Diana signed off with joy:

“Yes, definitely. My pick of the week is Why Whisky Why by the UK’s own Rob Wheeler—right here on Ginger and Nuts. Enjoy, guys!”

Rob Wheeler’s new single Why Whisky Why is available now.
