The Enchanting Trumptonshire Trilogy

Revealed by the talented Gordon Murray himself, these whimsical stories take inspiration from real-life, undisclosed locations that form an equilateral triangle just one and a half miles apart! It’s believed that Wivelsfield Green (Camberwick Green), Plumpton (Trumpton), and Chailey (Chigley) are the charming communities that inspired this magical world. And if you’re curious, check out the delightful 3-bedroom property for sale in what’s rumoured to be the inspiration behind Miss Lovelace’s Hat shop in Camberwick Green!

Prepare for laughter and merriment as Trumptonshire has been playfully parodied throughout the years. Spitting Image introduced us to the hilarious “Gamberwick Greenbelt” in 1988, VIZ Magazine brought us the side-splitting “Camberwick Greggs” in 2011, and who can forget the uproarious “Trumptown” where a certain celebrity construction mogul builds a comical wall between Trumptown and Chigley?

Get ready to experience the joy and nostalgia of the Trumptonshire Trilogy like never before! The DVD edition is priced at a steal of £59.99, while those seeking the epitome of home entertainment can opt for the Blu-Ray edition at £79.99.

The Timeless Charm of Trumpton

In the charming town of Trumpton, the clock ticks steadily, never rushing or lagging. Join the beloved characters – Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grub, and the rest of the Trumpton townsfolk – in Gordon Murray’s timeless animation classic. Experience all 13 fully restored episodes, brought back to life from the original film negatives.

This iconic British animation, originally narrated by Brian Cant, captivated viewers from 1967 to 1985. Trumpton is the second part of the Trumptonshire trilogy, alongside Camberwick Green and Chigley.

The music maestro, Freddie Phillips, composed the unforgettable tunes for all three Trumptonshire series. A talented musician, Phillips embraced innovative techniques, like multitrack recording, reverb, and tape speed adjustments, to create unique sounds.

One of the most memorable moments in Trumptonshire was the fireman’s roll call. There was only one Pugh originally, but Phillips suggested adding another for a “musical foot,” making Pugh and Pugh twins. This sparked spirited debates, wondering if it was Hugh and Pugh, Hugh and Hugh, or Pughpugh.

Depicting flames, smoke, and water in stop-motion animation proved challenging. Hence, scriptwriter Alison Prince was paid £15 per episode to craft 13 stories about a fire brigade that never encountered an actual fire.

Standing six inches tall, the characters boasted ping-pong ball heads and foam latex clothes. Concerned about decay, Gordon Murray bid farewell to the figures and sets by burning them in a bonfire in his backyard during the 1980s. Only a soldier boy figurine survived, gifted to a friend by Murray’s daughter.

Step into the Vibrant World of Chigley

Welcome to the vibrant town of Chigley! Join Lord Belborough and Bracket as they take Bessie for a run to Treadle’s Wharf. Meanwhile, the biscuit factory is bustling with workers creating delicious treats. After a hard day’s work, everyone gathers at the park for the lively 6 o’clock Tea Dance.

Relive all 13 original episodes, fully restored for your enjoyment. This iconic British animation, narrated by Brian Cant, first aired in 1969 and became a beloved staple on the BBC. Immerse yourself in the colourful world of Chigley, the captivating conclusion to the Trumptonshire trilogy, along with Camberwick Green and Trumpton.

Get ready to slow-walk down the hall, faster than a cannonball, just like Brackett the Butler from Chigley, and experience the magic that resonates with each and every one of us.
