Single of the Week: “I Love The 80s” by Men Without Hats

Music expert and broadcaster Diana Cavazos Woloszyk took listeners on a sentimental journey back to the vibrant days of the 1980s, naming I Love the 80s by Canadian pop-rock legends Men Without Hats as her “Single of the Week.”

“This week’s pick takes me on a joyride straight back to the 1980s,” said Diana. “That was the best era—and the best time to be alive as a teenager.”

Known for their iconic hit The Safety Dance, Men Without Hats helped shape the soundtrack of a generation. Their latest release, I Love the 80s, is a synth-pop tribute to the decade that made them famous—and to the fans who’ve stuck with them for over 40 years.

“For us Gen Xers, it’s a sonic reminder of who we are and where we came from,” she explained. “Listening to it is like opening an old photo album—except every snapshot comes alive in rhythm and melody.”

Diana, now 55, fondly recalled blasting The Safety Dance on her boombox as a teenager and jumping around her room like she was in her own music video. “And I still jump around when I see them live,” she laughed.

The new single, she says, retains that “pure synth-pop sparkle” while adding subtle callbacks to earlier hits like Pop Goes the World. “It’s fun, heartfelt, and wrapped in nostalgic joy,” she said.

The band’s retro-fuelled music video for I Love the 80s is now available on YouTube, and fans have even more to look forward to as Men Without Hats prepare to hit the road this summer and fall, touring across North America and the UK.

“They are the most fun band to see live,” Diana enthused, urging fans to catch a show if they can. “Here’s to Men Without Hats—and thank you for the nostalgia, the dance moves, and proof that we still can dance if we want to.”

Full tour schedules, ticket links, and merchandise are available at safetydance.com, with updates shared regularly on the band’s social media channels.
