The featured track? The electrifying anthem Alive, a standout hit from Sutherland’s sophomore album, The Drama.

A Chance Discovery

Diana recalls her serendipitous introduction to Spencer through a TikTok video. “It was back in October,” she shares, “when I saw this guy being asked what he does for a living on the streets of New York. He said he was a singer, introduced himself as Spencer Sutherland, and spoke about his passion for performing and making people smile. That confidence and authenticity caught my attention.”

Intrigued, Diana explored Spencer’s profile, diving into his videos and music. What she found left her captivated. “His glam retro-infused style, incredible vocal ability, and mesmerising performances won me over. He’s got this natural charm that makes him stand out.”

Who Is Spencer Sutherland?

Spencer Sutherland is an indie pop glam rock singer hailing from Pickerington, Ohio. His journey to fame began with a stint on The X Factor UK in 2017, where he impressed audiences under the mentorship of Louis Walsh. Though his run ended after the first live show, it marked the beginning of his professional music career.

By 2018, Sutherland had signed with BMG US, launching his first major tour the following year. His music also went to Hollywood with a song placement in Honey: Rise Up and Dance. In 2021, Spencer broadened his artistic repertoire, appearing in Netflix’s Afterlife of the Party, where he performed Home alongside Victoria Justice.

A Glam Rock Opera

Diana describes The Drama as “a glam rock opera album that blends rock anthems with captivating storytelling.” The record channels influence from the ‘70s and ‘80s, showcasing Spencer’s bold and electrifying voice.

“Spencer’s vocal prowess is phenomenal,” Diana raves. “It’s the kind of voice that would’ve given Freddie Mercury a run for his money if they’d been contemporaries. The album is rooted in classic rock but still feels fresh and modern. He’s like America’s answer to Luke Spiller of The Struts.”

Why Alive?

Choosing a single from the album wasn’t easy, but Alive stood out. “This song packs a punch,” Diana explains. “The chorus is powerful, the lyrics are catchy, and the harmonies are on point. It’s a feel-good anthem that lifts your spirit every time you hear it.”

On Tour and On the Rise

Spencer is set to embark on a world tour in 2024, with stops in Europe and North America. Diana is especially excited about his Chicago performance in March at the House of Blues.

“I can’t wait to see him live,” she says. “Spencer Sutherland is a name and an artist you need to know. Follow him, stream his music, and check out his tour dates. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.”

For now, Diana leaves readers with her Single of the Week: “Go listen to Alive by Spencer Sutherland. It’s a song that’ll brighten your day and leave you wanting more.”
