Radio Duo Ginger and Nuts Call It Quits

For nearly a decade,Ginger and Nuts have entertained audiences with their witty banter and infectious energy on the airwaves. But, the beloved radio personalities have announced that they will be signing off at the end of this year.

The decision, though bittersweet, comes as Darren, affectionately known as “Nuts,” battles a host of debilitating health issues. Suffering from conditions such as Fibromyalgia, arthritis, spine disease, and a cyst on his spine called Syringomyelia, Darren has struggled with chronic pain and fatigue that have made it increasingly difficult to maintain the rigorous schedule of planning and hosting the weekly show.

“Most days, I’m usually back in bed after just a few hours of being awake due to the pain and fatigue,” Darren confessed, his voice tinged with sadness. “And planning the show has become a constant struggle.”

Darren’s chronic anxiety, for which he is under the care of a psychiatrist, has only compounded the challenges he faces.

“It’s heartbreaking because presenting the show is my release,” he said. “But if my health improves even slightly, I’ll be sure to continue beyond the end of the year. I’m a fighter.”

Kat, Darren’s longtime co-host and on-air partner, shared in his disappointment, but acknowledged the need to prioritise Darren’s well-being.

“We’ve had an incredible run, and I’ll miss the laughter, the camaraderie, and the connection we’ve built with our listeners,” Kat said. “But Darren’s health has to come first, and we’ll be supporting him every step of the way.”

As the curtain falls on this chapter, Ginger and Nuts can take solace in the countless memories they’ve shared with their devoted audience. While their departure is bittersweet, the radio community eagerly awaits the possibility of their return, should Darren’s health improve in the future.
