Nashville-based singer-songwriter Reeve Stimpson, who has been gaining momentum with his unique blend of modern pop and nostalgic 80s influences, recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Ginger and Nuts. Joining Reeve on air was music expert Diana Cavazos Woloszyk from Chicago, who helped shed light on Stimpson’s creative journey. The trio discussed Reeve’s brand-new single “Over Me,” his musical inspirations, and how TikTok has helped him build his fanbase.
Kicking off the interview, Reeve shared the roots of his songwriting talent, which began with poetry in high school. “A lot of my teachers would ask to keep my poems,” he said, recounting how his dad’s unused guitar became his creative outlet. This passion for words soon evolved into songwriting, solidifying his path as an artist.
When asked about his inspirations, Reeve noted a mix of iconic artists. “Eric Church is one of my biggest inspirations,” he explained, but for his latest single, 80s legends like Bryan Adams and Huey Lewis have played a key role. “Huey Lewis and the News is a huge influence for me, especially for ‘Over Me,’” he said. Reeve’s admiration for the 80s extends to his personal life; he has been collecting VHS tapes, with films like Say Anything, Back to the Future, and Some Kind of Wonderful serving as significant influences.
The conversation then turned to the modern music industry, with Reeve crediting TikTok for helping him grow his fanbase. “TikTok has been really good because I can do live sets or play a song people request,” he shared. “But what helps the most is funny content—I like showing my personality,” Diana revealed that she discovered Stimpson through the platform, a testament to his growing online presence.
As for live performances, Reeve explained that while he currently plays acoustic sets, bigger shows will include a full band. “I’ve got songs with heavy synth keyboards and saxophones, so it’s going to be hard to bring that to life with just a guitar.”
Toward the end of the interview, Ginger and Nuts asked Reeve to introduce his new single. After some technical hiccups during a story about a past relationship that inspired the song, Stimpson finally described “Over Me” as a reflection of infatuation and the lengths people go for love—even if it’s not meant to last.
With his single debuting on the show, Reeve’s blend of 80s nostalgia and modern pop is set to captivate listeners both in the US and abroad. Fans can look forward to an official music video and a possible TikTok challenge as part of the release.
