REVIEW | THE WILD THINGS Kat Y (Ginge)

This week’s Pick of the Week, courtesy of music expert Diana Cavazos Woloszyk, is The Wild Things’ latest single, “Come Around.” Diana delves into the band’s energetic sound and meteoric rise to fame.

The Wild Things, a four-piece alternative rock band hailing from West London, features the sibling duo Sydney and Cameron White alongside Rob Kendrick and Pete Wheeler. While Sydney Ray White may be familiar to some as the actress from CBBC’s Young Dracula or Netflix’s Uncle, her talents extend far beyond the screen. Together with Rob Kendrick, the band caught the attention of The Who’s Pete Townsend after a chance meeting during the stage production of Quadrophenia: The Musical. Impressed by their sound, Townsend invited the band to his studio to record four tracks, marking the beginning of a fruitful collaboration.

Today, The Wild Things celebrate the release of their second album, Afterglow, co-produced by Townsend himself. Over the past year, the band has graced iconic venues like the O2 Arena, Royal Albert Hall, Madison Square Garden, and MGM Vegas. Their soaring popularity has led them to share stages with legendary acts such as Kiss, The Who, and Pearl Jam. The band even had the honor of opening for Kiss last year.

Diana recalls her first encounter with The Wild Things when she stumbled upon their captivating cover of ABBA’s “Does Your Mother Know,” a track that has since become a staple on her playlist. Now, with the release of Afterglow, the band has enlisted the help of some famous friends—Kiss’s Tommy Thayer, Trixie Mattel, and their rock godfather, Pete Townsend—all contributing to the album.
