“First Time” is the band’s newest release, and Diana was eager to weigh in. “The Little River Band was on every radio station in the late 70s through the 80s with hits like ‘Reminiscing,’ ‘Lonesome Loser,’ ‘Cool Change,’ and of course, the classic ‘Lady,'” she reminisced.

Diana, who was 10 years old when “Lonesome Loser” was released in 1979, vividly remembers hearing the song constantly on Chicago’s WLS radio as she rode with her father in his brown station wagon. “I actually used to hate the song because it was so overplayed, but now it brings back good family memories,” she admitted with a laugh.

The original lineup of Little River Band was formed in Melbourne, Australia in 1975 and consisted of Graeham Goble, Beeb Birtles, George McArdle, Glenn Shorrock, David Briggs, and Derek Pellicci. The band went on to achieve major commercial success in both Australia and the United States, selling over 30 million records worldwide.

“In 1982, LRB set a record for having had top 10 hits for six consecutive years. They were the very first band to achieve that amazing plateau,” noted Diana.

Bassist and vocalist Wayne Nelson joined the band in 1980 and his distinctive vocal harmonies became a crucial part of the LRB sound. In 1981, the legendary Sir George Martin recognised Nelson’s talents, having him record lead vocals on two of the band’s biggest hits, “Take It Easy On Me” and “The Night Owls.”

The current lineup keeping the LRB sound alive features Nelson and Chris Marion on keyboards and vocals, Bruce Wallace on guitar and vocals from Nashville, Ryan Ricks on drums, percussion and vocals, and Colin Winery on lead vocals and lead guitar.

Diana was particularly moved by the band’s latest single “First Time,” which she says reminded her of the Freddie Fender classic “Before The Next Teardrop Falls.”

“It was a favourite song of my mom’s. There was a TikTok video of a country singer named Clay Walker singing this to Randy Travis. And I just broke down crying thinking of my mom,” she shared emotionally.

“This song actually can be for anybody that has lost someone, whether it’s a loved one from a heartbreak, a breakup, or a loved one who has just passed on, just like my mom did of late last September.”

Little River Band’s new album featuring “First Time” and “Window To The World” is set for release later this year.
