Country Star Bri Bagwell Talks Music, Awards, and Her Beloved Rescue Dog

In a heartfelt and lively interview with beloved radio personalities Ginger and Nuts, award-winning country singer Bri Bagwell opened up about her journey in music, her deep love for rescue animals, and her latest musical endeavours.

From Texas to the Road
Speaking from her RV, where she spends much of her time travelling, Bri shared her joy in being constantly on the move. “I’m happiest on the road,” she said with a smile. The Texas-born singer, who has scored an impressive 13 number-one singles on Texas radio, expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support she receives from the state’s country music scene. “Texas radio just kind of supports me no matter what, which is so lovely,” she said.

A Song for Whiskey
One of her most recent singles, The Rescue, is an emotional tribute to her rescue dog, Whiskey. “I found Whiskey in the middle of the road in 2019. She was cold, had heartworms, and was so skinny,” Bri recounted. Though her mother had initially set conditions against adopting another dog, fate intervened. “Now I bought her a 32-foot RV so I can have her with me at all times!” she said, laughing.

Writing The Rescue was no easy task, as her deep bond with Whiskey often made her too emotional to finish the song. “Every time I tried, I just started crying,” she admitted. With the help of her friend and songwriter Helene Cronin, the song finally came to life. Her boyfriend, a talented musician, recorded the track in their home, playing all the instruments himself. Since its release, the song has helped raise over $7,000 for local dog shelters, a cause close to Bri’s heart. “It’s been amazing to be able to give back through something that’s so natural to me—loving my dog,” she said.

A Lifetime of Music
Bri’s passion for music runs deep in her family. “My dad played guitar, my mom played lap steel, and my grandma was second cousins with Johnny Cash,” she revealed. She grew up surrounded by music, watching country music countdowns with her mother and listening to a mix of classic country and rock. “I love Willie Nelson, Selena, Dolly Parton, and Brandi Clark, but I also have a rock influence from bands like Creedence Clearwater Revival.”

New Releases and Future Plans
Bri has been keeping busy with multiple projects. Her upcoming single Border Girl reflects on her experience growing up near the Texas-Mexico border. “I feel like I’m a part of two different cultures, and I know that’s a common feeling for many,” she said. The song was produced by her boyfriend, who played all the instruments. Border Girl is set for release in about a month.

Before that, however, fans can enjoy Ain’t That Love, a duet she wrote years ago while working as a songwriter in Nashville. Originally forgotten, the song was rediscovered when a friend’s girlfriend encouraged her to record it. “We recorded it at Green Studios in New Braunfels, and it came out on Valentine’s Day—on the same day I had a sold-out show at Green Hall,” she said.

On the Road Again
Bri is currently touring across the U.S. and was on her way to a performance at Carol’s Pub in Chicago when she spoke with Ginger and Nuts. Despite the road noise, her enthusiasm was infectious. “I’ve never played here before, so I’m really excited!”
