For Woloszyk, this week’s pick carried more than just musical significance. At 55, she says she has found herself embracing the sounds her parents once cherished—country and Tejano music—genres she never expected to fall in love with.
“This has put me on my own path of personal discovery,” Woloszyk explained. “Not in a million years would I have thought I’d open my heart to the music my parents loved. And here I am today, embracing both.”
Her selection coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month, a fitting time to celebrate the rich blend of cultures and traditions reflected in her chosen track.
The version of Amarillo By Morning that captured her attention is a collaboration between Jesse Turner and his band Siggno, featuring country singer and Amarillo, Texas native Aaron Watson. Originally recorded in 1973 by Terry Stafford and later immortalised by George Strait in 1983, the song has been reimagined with a Tejano-country fusion, infused with cumbia rhythms yet true to country roots.
Turner revealed that the collaboration was born from a light-hearted studio moment, but it quickly grew into something powerful. The result is a heartfelt cultural crossover that Woloszyk describes as “a beautiful rendition with country heart.”
Formed in Santa Rosa, Texas, Siggno has been performing since 2000, blending Tejano, Norteña, and modern rock-tango. Beyond critical praise, Turner’s mother remained his biggest supporter, blessing him before each show. Sadly, she passed away last weekend, a loss that deeply shook the band.
“Our hearts and prayers are with Jesse and his family,” Woloszyk said on air, noting how his mother had inspired his early songwriting.
Reflecting on the song’s deeper meaning, Woloszyk added: “Amarillo By Morning depicts hardships, resilience, and the simple beauty of a hard life—just like our parents endured to give us the best life possible. We may not be rich, but we are rich in love.”
She encouraged listeners to support Siggno and Aaron Watson across digital platforms, dedicating her pick of the week to her own parents: “This one’s for you, Mum and Dad.”
