Music expert Diana Cavazos Woloszyk takes listeners on another musical detour on the Ginger and Nuts Show — and this time, Spotify did the discovering for her.

That was certainly the case for Diana Cavazos Woloszyk, whose latest ‘Single of the Week’ selection arrived almost entirely by chance.

Review - Fly By Midnight Darren Y
Speaking on the Ginger and Nuts Show, Diana revealed that she had no particular song in mind when she opened Spotify one evening. Then, just before heading to bed, ‘No Choice’ by Fly By Midnight appeared on her screen.
It wasn’t a new release. She hadn’t searched for it. She wasn’t even expecting to hear it.
But she pressed play — and within seconds, she was hooked.
“Sometimes you don’t choose your pick of the week and your pick of the week sometimes chooses you,” Diana explained.
And in this case, it was the opening groove that immediately caught her attention.
Fly By Midnight pull listeners into No Choice with a smooth, infectious rhythm before gradually unveiling a story about heartbreak, memory and the difficulty of letting go.
For Diana, that’s where the song really comes alive.
A self-confessed fan of strong storytelling lyrics, she was particularly drawn to the way No Choice gets inside the head of someone who knows a relationship has ended and accepts that the other person has moved on — yet still finds themselves returning to the memories.
The past keeps playing in their mind, almost like a song stuck on repeat.
And that gives the title an extra layer of meaning.
There may be no choice in the situation itself, but emotionally, the narrator seems to have “no choice” but to keep going back to those memories.
Then comes the chorus.
And Diana’s verdict is emphatic: “Wow.”
Catchy and infectious, it’s the kind of chorus that doesn’t simply disappear when the song ends. Instead, it lingers, sneaking its way into your head and becoming more compelling each time it returns.
What makes Diana’s discovery even more interesting is that No Choice wasn’t a brand-new track waiting to be uncovered. Originally released in 2021, the song found its way into her Spotify feed several years later — and sounded completely fresh.
That longevity is perhaps no surprise given the story behind Fly By Midnight.
The indie-pop duo consists of Justin Bright and Justin Slavin, better known as Slavo. Their musical journey brought together two very different starting points, with Slavo growing up in Central Florida before moving to New York to pursue music, while Bright hails from Staten Island.
The pair met in New York and eventually formed Fly By Midnight before later making the move to Los Angeles.
Their partnership has since developed into a distinctive blend of polished pop production, infectious melodies and emotionally driven songwriting — qualities that Diana found particularly evident in No Choice.
The track has also continued to live beyond its original studio release. It features on the duo’s live material, giving fans another opportunity to hear the song performed in front of an audience, including a live recording captured in Tokyo.
For Diana, choosing No Choice also represents another change of musical direction.
Her weekly selections have taken listeners from one genre to another — from New Wave one week to Country the next, and now into the world of indie pop.
But despite the stylistic detours, there’s a common thread running through her choices: songs that grab her attention and give her something to talk about.
And No Choice certainly did that.
With its irresistible groove, memorable chorus and lyrics that place the listener directly inside a complicated emotional moment, the track proved to Diana that sometimes the most rewarding musical discoveries aren’t the ones you deliberately seek out.
Sometimes, they simply appear.
And on this particular night, Spotify seemed to know exactly what it was doing.
For anyone discovering Fly By Midnight for the first time through Diana’s recommendation, No Choice could be the perfect starting point — a song that feels both immediately accessible and surprisingly rich once you start listening to the story beneath the melody.
As Diana puts it, she hopes listeners enjoy discovering Fly By Midnight as much as she did.
And perhaps the next unexpected song to become her Single of the Week is already waiting somewhere in a Spotify feed.
