With winds still blowing strong from the Windy City, Cavazos Woloszyk declared “Lies” by Culture Wars her Single of the Week, spotlighting the Texas-based alternative rock band’s blistering new release.

“I stumbled upon them on a Spotify new release,” she explained. “And I’ve been hooked ever since.”

Culture Wars, a five-piece outfit hailing from Austin, Texas, have been steadily building their momentum since forming in 2017. The band—Alex Dugan (lead vocals), Caleb Contreras and Josh Stirm (guitars), Dillon Randolph (bass), and David Grayson (drums)—has cultivated a sound that pays homage to Brit-rock royalty like Oasis and modern titans such as Kings of Leon and Coldplay.

Speaking of Oasis, the band recently took a pilgrimage to Cardiff to see the legendary rockers live. “You can actually catch snippets of them having the time of their lives at the show on TikTok,” said Cavazos Woloszyk.

Their latest single, “Lies,” dropped on July 25th and is already making waves. It serves as a powerful precursor to their highly anticipated debut full-length album, due in 2026. The single also tees up headline shows in Los Angeles and New York slated for this October.

Lies is a song about heartbreak and deceit,” said Cavazos Woloszyk. “It’s raw, it’s emotional, and yet it’s delivered with this soaring alternative rock energy that just hits.”

Written by Dugan and Contreras, Lies marks a creative turning point for the band. With Dugan’s vocals delivering a visceral portrayal of betrayal, the track doubles as both a cathartic anthem and a powerful invitation to anyone looking to reclaim their trust and identity.

What’s more, Culture Wars is forging ahead without a label—a fact not lost on the Chicago expert.

“There’s something incredibly inspiring about bands like this,” she remarked. “They’re independent, building a loyal fan base, and absolutely smashing it.”

With the industry watching and listeners tuning in, “Lies” might just be the breakout moment Culture Wars have been working toward.
